Default Customer Group

When a new customer registers I want them to be automatically assigned to a group which is not linked to a payment plan as this will be their initial free plan group for 2000 emails per month. I have 3 paid plans at $10, $20 and $50 per month. I have set up the free plan group not linked to a payment plan but cant work out of I can have new customers automatically assigned to the free plan group. Is this possible or is there a better way. I don't want the customer to have to go through Paypal to register for the free group.
 
You need to create a group, then ad the privileges to that group, ie free 2000 now you can set if this group receive 2000 emails free every month or you can set to expire and force upgrade to a new paid group, Your set up seems to need step 1 go to admin then settings then customers then chose registration then default group
