I'm using Amazon SES btw, and it looks like their MAIL FROM domain needs to be sent from the same domain (can be different subdomain). I'd imagine we need agent code that resides on a subdomain from anydomain.com so it can bypass the servers.
I wonder how mailchimp was able to get around this?
